Oil, Oil, Oil…that’s all you here about these days…the world’s dependency on oil is way out of control. The United consumes 25% of the world’s oil and with India and China growing their industrial nations the oil extraction rate has passed 1,000 barrels per second.

April 20, 2010 the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit Deepwater Horizon owned by Transocean exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. Deepwater Horizon drilled on the BP operated Macondo Prospect. It is the largest accidental marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry.

On July 15, 2010, the leak was stopped by capping the gushing wellhead after it had released about 4.9 million barrels of crude oil. An estimated 53,000 barrels per day just before it was capped. The spill caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf's fishing and tourism industries.

Drill we must, but it will take 10 years for one drop of oil to come out of any of the wells that are going to be drilled." Palin responded by saying, "The chant is 'drill, baby, drill.'
